Who we are, and what’s the point…

This adventure is like a turn of the page in a new chapter of our life story… but ok, wait… how did we get here? Honestly, the pandemic changed our perspective. The empty grocery shelves, supply chain fragility, and the rise in overall cost of living really hit home. There has to be a better way. I mean, how are we ever going to get a head, feel secure, and thrive living the the same pattern year after year?

Simply stated we weren’t. We needed to learn to be more self sufficient. We started right there in the city! We brought home a small flock of laying hens. Then we were inspired to build a garden and try gardening aiming to preserve for the first time. It went really well. Bolstered by our success we decided to add Coturnix quail for eggs and protein. Learned a lot!!

This was all in Nanaimo BC, on Vancouver Island. Naturally we wanted to expand, more garden, chickens, maybe even a dairy animal! Obviously we couldn’t do that in the city, and property values sky rocketed so buying a few acres on the island was out of reach… like 3 acres for 5 million dollars! Not possible, so where could we go?

One of our friends was also looking at property at the same time and they brought the Maritimes to our attention. It’s another coast, so the ocean is near by, it was an option. We looked at how much an acreage would cost and did a search. It was affordable, so we started making plans. After only 2 years New Brunswick is our home and so far we love it here.
